The brothers of the notorious former Executive Director of the Republican Road Infrastructure Fund, Vesselin Georgiev, refused to testify during his Wednesday trial.

Boyko and Emil Georgievi took advantage of their right to not be a witness in the trial of a relative.

Vesselin Georgiev aka Batko (Big Brother) is charged with abuse of power for the July 2006 - November 2007 period.

As Executive Director of the Republican Road Infrastructure Fund, in violation of the Public Tenders Act, Georgiev had approved contracts between the Fund and different companies amounting to BGN 120 M, with the goal to provide profits for his two brothers.

The controversy that led to the freezing of EUR 723 M earmarked to improve Bulgaria's dilapidated roads broke out following an investigation by the newspaper Kapital.

Georgiev resigned from his post under pressure from the media.
