A Greek owned tanker have been hijacked Tuesday by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

The freighter named as the MV Irene, and the crew of 22 Filipinos were taken in the Gulf of Aden, officials reported, cited by the BBC.

Officials from the EU Maritime Security Centre said the 35 000-tonne vessel was seized overnight. A NATO helicopter had been dispatched from a Canadian warship to investigate what was happening to the ship, the BBC reported.

Capt. Richard Philips was rescued Monday after a dramatic US Navy operation. He was seized by pirates last Wednesday after his ship the Maersk Alabama was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. The ship had been carrying food aid bound for Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda.
