The Vermont House of Representatives overrode a governor's veto Tuesday legalizing gay marriage.
The House passed the bill by a 100-49 vote, after the Vermont Senate did the same by a 23-5 vote earlier on Tuesday, BGNES reported.
Thus, after on Saturday the Iowa Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing gay marriage, Vermont has become the fourth American state to legalize it.
In 2000, Vermont became the first state to allow full civil unions for same sex couples. Other New England states, Connecticut and Massachusetts were the first states to allow gay marriage. California followed suit briefly in 2008 before its voters banned it in a referendum.
