Bulgarian Export Trade with EU Countries Flourishes in 2008

The latest statistics regarding exports of goods from Bulgaria for 2008 have been released by the National Statistical Institute. They show that roughly 60% of Bulgaria's exports head to other EU countries.

The statistics show that in 2008 Bulgaria exported a total of BGN 18 B to its EU partner countries out of a total export value of BGN 28 B. Compared to 2007 Bulgarian exports to other EU countries grew by 11,8% while imports also went up by 12,1%.

Bulgaria's main export partners in the EU were Germany, Italy and Greece, for these 3 countries received 46% of Bulgaria's total exports to the EU. They are also Bulgaria's main import partners, with 44% of imports into the country coming from them.

Bulgaria's trade deficit with the EU has reached BGN 10 B. Bulgaria's main EU export products include metals and other raw products (32%), clothes, furniture and shoes (23%) and machines (17%).
