Bulgaria and Georgia intend to establish a permanent ferry line between the ports of Varna and Poti, which is expected to start in May 2009.

This was announced by Bulgaria's Minister of Transport, Petar Mutafchiev, who welcomed Tuesday the first railway ferry from Russia's Port Kavkaz to the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna.

Mutafchiev said the bilateral contract for the new ferry line would most likely be ready within two weeks, and the first goods between Bulgaria's Varna and Georgia's Poti might be transported as early as the beginning of May.

The Transport Minister also pointed out the new Danube ferry between Bulgaria's Nikopol and Romania's Turnu Magurele will be opened at the end of March 2009.
