Bulgaria GERB Party Wants Deep Professional Education Reform

The leadership of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, (GERB) Party called Saturday for deep reforms in the area of professional education, the Darik radio reports.
During a conference, held in Sofia, the Sofia Deputy Mayor for Education, Yordanka Fandukova, presented the GERB policies in the areas of education and professional education.
The educational reforms must be coordinated with businesses, trade unions and non-governmental organizations, the Chair of GERB, Tsvetan Tsvetanov stated, adding that at the moment the State was not allowing business participation in the preparation of the country's human resources.
"Bulgarian education is not aligned with the employers' expectations. For the most part it generates unemployment," Tsvetanov said.
The Executive Director of the Confederation of Bulgarian Employers and Industrials, Evgeny Ivanov, declared that business was ready to invest in education, but the current law prohibited employers to participate in educational plans' preparation.
"The business is the one that pays the bill. We pay twice - first through taxes and then, when we have to hire someone who is not adept," Ivanov stated.
The Executive Director pointed out that all human resource in the production sector were ill-prepared, except those in the IT industry.
Sofia's Deputy Mayor for Education, Yordanka Fandukova, explained that to her, the main problem was the employers' requirement of work experience, which was a demonstration of the mistrust on the part of the business of education's quality.
Fandukova said that good education needed staff development and improvement of facilities and equipment.
Employers and GERB leadership alike, united around the opinion that the lack of coordination between trade unions, business and non-governmental organizations was the main issue and pointed out that the Cabinet's anti-crisis action plan did not include a single clause about education.
