Bulgaria's Preident Georgi Parvanov stated that the second nuclear power plant to be constructed in the country near the town of Belene is not an alternative to the first one in Kozloduy.

The head of state said in an interview for Darik Radio that the cabinet should insist for the restart of units 3 and 4 of Kozloduy NPP before the European Commission.

"We can and must convince Europe that such a step is to cover the damages Bulgaria and its neighbours suffered as a result of the gas crisis," President Parvanov explained.

"After closing the two units of Kozloduy facility our country became a victim of a wrong decision made by some of our European partners," he added.

The president said also it is a mistake to leave into the past a station that could produce electricity in a safe way.
