In a statement distrubuted to the media Wednesday, the US Ambassador to Bulgaria Nancy McEldowney declares that the Bulgarian people clearly should not be victimized as a result of the Russia-Ukraine gas dispute.

Her Excellency states that the cutoff of the Russian natural gas to Bulgaria was completely unacceptable, and the USA backed the calls of the Bulgarian government and the EU for the immediate restoration of the terminated supplies.

The US Ambassador to Bulgaria notes further that the current crisis caused by a bilateral gas prices dispute had demonstrated the need to diversify Europe's sources of energy in general, and of natural gas in particular. Her Excellency also declares America's position against shady deals and manipulations of monopoly energy suppliers.
