The integration of European countries within the framework of the European Union must be halted temporarily. The EU needs to make a pause and think about future ways of development based on new principles, stated the Federal President of Germany Joachim Gauck.
“By creating the EU, we developed an incredible concept of which previous generations could only dream. But along the road to greater integration we were rather hasty and not all citizens could or would follow us,” underlined Gauck.
“It would be useful in the future to decide at the national level those problems that can be solved precisely at that level,” added Gauck, declaring that he is against the de-sovereignisation of European states....
