Commenting article: Erdogan, Putin to Meet in Two Weeks

Turkish officials have said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to meet with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in August, the two countries' official news agencies report.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet ?im?ek is quoted as saying that Moscow and Ankara should work to mend fences as soon as possible.

The meeting has been scheduled for August 09 and will be held in St Petersburg, Russia.

The announcement was first made by the Kremlin and spread by Russia's TASS news agency. State-run Anadolu Agency of Turkey later confirmed.

The development follows a step by Erdogan to apologize to Putin for the downing of a Russian Su-24 fighter-bomber, an incident that strained relations in November of last year.
