Commenting article: Lost in Lack of Translation: Svetlana, Bulgaria and the Conflict in Ukraine

Novinite is introducing Svetlana Belenets, a Ukrainian national seeking asylum in Bulgaria, and Carl Spate, a Briton who has been helping her along the way and who contacted us to tell their story.

"I sent an email to the Ministry of Interior that Sveta is an illegal immigrant; then sent another one to the State Refugee Agency. She will be illegal after the 1st of March,” Carl tells me angrily on the phone on a Tuesday morning. “If they want to do deportation they should do it. I told her: 'If you want to go home, go home. She will not get into Donbass."

Care factor = zero. Ukraine national, Russian mother tongue and a British pensioner who doesn\'t speak to his own son. Take your problems to the UK buddy. Bulgaria has more pressing issues, other than your love life.

An illiterate clown who disparages this country and its people - who cares what he has to say?

The key phrase here is; "pensioner; he hasn't got any money"..
For a foreigner who has lived in Bg for 8 years, he certainly hasn't learned what many of us learned in 8 weeks here.

Rule#1: pay a knowledgeable attorney 250-500 Euro to sort it out, or deal with an oriental, corrupt system on your own..

If Carl can't afford this basic legal fee, my condolences to Svetlana for being yet another victim of an alcoholic Brits' world-wide trawling for a vulnerable woman..
