Foreigners will be allowed to work as experts in Bulgaria's state administration or councilors under new legislative changes, the prime minister said.
Sergey Stanishev was speaking at a meeting with the ambassadors of EU member states, who were invited to hear more about the government's idea to further cooperation between Bulgaria, EU member states and the European Commission with regard to judicial reforms, administrative capacity and EU funds absorption.
The meeting was attended by the ministers Ivaylo Kalfin, Meglena Plugchieva and Gergana Passy....
May I insert a thought here? Do these foreign nationals have to speak Bulgarian in order to hold positions in the Bulgarian government? Or is Bulgarian government business going to be conducted in a foreign language because of them? English or German perhaps? BTW, I agree wholeheartedly that Madam Plugchieva needs all the help she can get.
They need to open it up to English speaking foreigners because Bulgaria is light years behind most of the world in fluent English speakers. The government should institute a program to teach government workers to speak English (oh, they already have, sorry I forgot). I hope they had more success at it than the language schools have had in teaching the general population to speak English.
What on Earth is the Prime Minister up to now ?
Bulgaria has been member of EU for quite some time now and the country does not need to ask other member states for cooperation or support. EU expects Bulgaria to act like a member state, instead of playing "cooperation and information" games with Ambassadors and EU officials.
I suggest most EU citizens also know that free movement of labour is part of EU's constitution and English is the official EU language now. So Bulgaria is already open for Foreign / EU "experts" of any kind, but I certainly agree that they should be able to understand and use the national language.
Another primitive political stunt to draw political empathy and speculate in EU recruitment funds (they exist) ? That said - I am pleased to see that most of stunts by the Bulgarian Government are ignored by EU. The PM's plead to recruit foreign experts to fight corruption and organized crime should be passed in silence as well.
