Let's make a deal - the Pope should not query the holocaust and other secular issues and we won't query scripture. So much for the separation between church and state. He is German and he should know better. But what can you expect from a guy who believes that Jesus was the son of God? He should plead insanity and call it a day.
Is it about the holocaust, or is it about the distortion of truth? The Bishop is in my opinion slightly mad, and perhaps a religious extremist. However, should we deny him a voice? Is he any worse than the politicians who sway our opinions with rhetoric and propaganda? Or, other religious extremists? Freedom is truth, and maybe we have lost too much truth to the thought police in the past 8 years?
Here in Germany, the holocaust is a very touchy subject indeed. In fact, denying the holocaust has been made a punishable crime.
Also, the Jewish Central Council is up in arms about this as well.
For whatever reason, the Catholic Church excommuncated the Bishop in question. The present Pope, however, has reinstated him. Many, not just here in Germany, feel that this is a bad decision.
Either way, it's a touchy position for a priest to be in. Even Cardinals and Bishops are criticizing the Pope at this point.
as former NAZI ally , our Gypsy friends must share responsibility as well ... I do not care whether you treated Jews well or not during WW2 ... In case Germans were bold enough to admit their gilt , Bulgarians also should stay next to them in row ...
"Freedom is truth, and maybe we have lost too much truth to the thought police in the past 8 years?"
Indeed. Not just in the last 8 years, however. More like in the last 50 years, since WWII. In the interest of achieving consensus of opinion so that society can advance forward, the media and various governments have been assuming the role of thought police.
How exactly is society going to progress with people saying things about history that's totally nonsense and untruthful. For example like what that Bishop said about the holocaust.
My proof that the Holocaust did happen is that I noticed when I was 11 years old that there wasn't any Jews around in Thessaloniki in Northern Greece.
