Commenting article: Bulgaria Covered with Black Cloth on Czech Insulting Art Piece "Entropa"

The Czech Presidency of the European Union has covered Tuesday the map of Bulgaria, depicted as a squad toilet as part of the infamous "Entropa" exhibit, with a black cloth.

The step has been taken after Bulgaria's permanent Representation at the European Institutions has issued an official objection to the work, displayed at the European Council building in Brussels.

"We wanted to find out if Europe is able to laugh at itself" Cerny has said.

Clearly, Bulgaria is not able to laugh at itself, it takes itself much too seriously, never a sign of self confidence. No sense of humor=inferiority complex. Bulgaria is inferior and it knows it, it has a chip on its shoulder and it lacks self-confidence.

But we already knew this.

CJB - 20 Jan 2009 // 17:01:56

Bulgaria is now depicted as a Turkish toilet wearing a Burqa!

Cerny's joke becomes even more bizarrely successful. BG government officials are still pompous, nationalistic, humourless idiots.

HAHAHAHA! Black Flag comes to mind:

Black Flag may refer to:

* Black flag, an international anarchist symbol.
* An alternative translation for the name of the anarchist Russian group Chernoe Znamia, also known as Black Banner.
* Iran golden flags, an international anarchist symbol.
* Black Flag (newspaper), an anarchist newspaper
* Black Flag (insecticide), a brand of insecticide
* Black Flag (band), American hardcore punk band
* Black Flag (locality) is a ghost town in Western Australia
* Black Flag Army, a militia operating around Hanoi in the late 19th century
* Czarny Sztandar (1903), a BiaЕ‚ystok anarchist organisation
* Chernoe Znamia (1905), a Geneva anarchist newspaper

xNELLIEx, when you get out of your teens maybe you could post something useful, until then stfu. This is just worthless "shock art" from a looser unable to make a name of himself in any other way artistically. Clearly he appeals to your childish mind, others more mature are not amused that this work is displayed at its particular spot. Who cares what he does elsewhere. I must say the czechs have shown great incompetence for not knowing beforehand what would be put on display. There is a time and place for such content, and it's elsewhere where u can be amused and lol like the teen u are.

Bulgaria deserves a big apology, as does the other european states offended.

countryhick - 20 Jan 2009 // 21:51:20

Please do tell us what art is?

"Bulgaria deserves a big apology, as does the other european states offended."

The Bulgarian government and media have shown themselves to be po-faced, stupid and authoritarian over this artwork. People who react in such a manner do not deserve an apology, they deserve to be ridiculed.

What is the first impression from forengers when they vistis bulgaria? Yes, of cource the antique toilets. Nothing to be shamebe of, but it feels to be landed in Afica. The progression in the last 15 years about basic hygienic public facilities is stranded and i feel it leads to nowhere in the short future.

fishbrain - 20 Jan 2009 // 22:43:20

Art in general shocks. It always shocks someone or other for one or other reasons. Personal attacks on the artist are a waste of time.

The fact is that many other european nations have equal reason to be offended and yet they did not scream up and down. Basically these nations ignored it and therefore people will not even remember in a few months time what was done. In Bulgaria so much "hurrah" was raised that now its impossible to forget either here or anywhere else in Europe. Basically Bulgaria had a chance to rise above this and show the whole europe that it could tolerate such "art" but instead it did the opposit drawing more attention to itself.

In the end perhaps many here are anygry because their thoughts have been exposed in art.

BGREvive - 20 Jan 2009 // 23:38:49

Nellie, it's certainly because of people like you who feel inferior being Bulgarians that Bulgaria may have a feeling of inferiority.

On a separate topic now, the fact that BG was depicted as a toilet is offensive. So, as far as I am concerned, BG did well to cover that piece of shitty provocative art (the sole purpose fo which is by the way to act as PR for that pseudo artist who, let me remind you, did not even comply with the specs) is an act of intransigence as to our image. Well done BG government

It is offensive and it provokes, as art should more often do...

As far as BG being affended,..isn't it better to take it as a constructive criticism. May be Bulgaria, though beautiful, has developed resemblance to a toilet recently. I haven't been there in a while.

A few years ago, my friends and I spent time with a few French tourists. When someone commented, he had been to France and had seen Paris, one of the girls said (with a very French accent): 'Paris? Paris is one big trrrash can.'

"The Bulgarian government and media have shown themselves to be po-faced, stupid and authoritarian over this artwork. People who react in such a manner do not deserve an apology, they deserve to be ridiculed."

Yes, indeed. A very ex-communist and uncivilized, dumb way to behave. It just shows Bulgarian officials have no exposure to contemporary modern art which is always provocative these days. Bulgarian officials have no culture and no art appreciation. Really should take a Modern Art 101 class.

Yane - 21 Jan 2009 // 03:11:27

xNELLIEx, you shouldn't be talking about modern art, if u knew just a little you would know that "shock art" with specific purpose of being shocking and no other goal whatsoever than a bad artist to get a name, is not very respected.

Yane - 21 Jan 2009 // 03:14:24

O and "bulgaria has no culture and art apreciation" says the kid with toilet humour who thinks he is looking at a van gogh piece. Will you struggle with puberty much longer young man?

xNELLIEx - 21 Jan 2009 // 03:54:39

Oh, you mean not respected like Andy Warhol? Give yourself a break and don'd puke nonsense about stuff you know nothing about!
