Why are you still up at this hour? It must be 5 AM over there!
"L. Ron Hubbard is one of the biggtest phones to come down the pike. Scientology isn't his first "creation". I'm not sure what he was pushing earlier, but I do know he was famous before Scientology was heard of."
HAHAHAHA! That's rich, coming from an LDS! To me, it is like the pot calling the kettle black! The jury is still out on who is the bigger snake oil salesman - L.R. Hubbard or J.Smith. I think it is pretty much 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
"For example: If Adam and Eve were the first two people on earth, and they had two sons, whom did Cain marry? He went off into the land of Nod and founded a dynasty. Did he take Eve with him? Is "MF" a term of biblican origin?"
Now you are asking a fairy tale - the Bible - to be logical and to make sense. It is a fairy tale about Adam and Eve. Jesus did live, he was killed, but he is no more the "son of God" than J. Smith was! It is all fiction as far as I am concerned. I can excuse the ignorant people of 2000 years ago for believing it, but I can't excuse the ignorant people of 200 years ago who followed Smith and Young or the even more ignorant people of 50 years ago who followed Hubbard. Tom Cruise and John Travolta are intellectual gnats to fall for that crap.
Say, didn't you study theater arts? Does that mean you are a handsome leading man type of guy? With a fabulous voice? Just asking...........
"The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
I'm not going to quibble with you. Believe and accept what you want.
However, your Latin is faulty.
"Scio" is a verb form, meaning "I know". The noun form, "knowledge", is "sciens.
The greel "logos" is translated correctly.
"Truth", however, in Latin is "veritas".
So Scientology translates to the study of knowledge; not truth.
You're really stubborn, aren't you?
"Now you are asking a fairy tale - the Bible - to be logical and to make sense."
If the Bible is a fairy tale, then your Orthodox faith is also false, no? So far as I'm aware it's based on the seme texts.
As to your question, no. My field was technical stagecraft, principally lighting.
"Jesus did live, he was killed, but he is no more the "son of God" than J. Smith was!"
The first part of that is accurate. Jesus is mentioned in Josephus' "Antiquities of the Jews", but the rest is false. Joseph Smith never claimed to be "the son of God" in the sense that Jesus is.
After all, we're ALL children of God, so in that sense Joseph was as much a child of God as we are.
"You're really stubborn, aren't you?"
HAHAHAHA! No more and no less stubborn than you!
Anyway, I am extremely stubborn and I don't take NO for an answer. So, why are we debating the merits of various religions? We should be debating the terms and conditions of our impending marriage. I might be your future ex-wife. You never know..............
"Joseph Smith never claimed to be "the son of God" in the sense that Jesus is."
Right you are. I forgot. Smith claimed Jesus went to America and converted the Indians. Moroni is the son of Mormon and he is an angel, not the son of God.
"After all, we're ALL children of God, so in that sense Joseph was as much a child of God as we are."
We are all children of Mother Earth. Whatever is going on here on earth is not that significant in terms of universal space and time. The average human life is a blink of an eye in universal time and the earth is a speck of dust in universal space. Humans as we know them are only a few thousand years old living on a tiny planet. The universe is millions of years old and it is huge. Our God or anything else we humand do is irrelevant in universal terms.
"If the Bible is a fairy tale, then your Orthodox faith is also false, no? So far as I'm aware it's based on the same texts."
Of course. My religion is based on that same fairy tale. People didn't know any better 2000 years ago. The earth was flat with heaven above and hell below it. There was no gravity, no America, no atom bombs. The science fiction writers of the day wrote the gospels that make up the Bible, just like Mohamed, J.Smith and Hubbard wrote their particular brands of science fiction. I can forgive the people of 2000 years ago, they didn't know any better, but Mohamed, Smith and Hubbard are snake oil salesmen perpetrating fraud on monumental scale. They are the Ponzi of religion.
Will you PLEASE stop arguing the point?
After what I've been through in the past 18 months, I'm in no mood to have what saved my life called ficton!
You're not looking for God; you're looking for something which conforms with your opinion.
End of discussion!
Let's get back to Cain's wife - who was she?
In Genesis 5:4 we read a statement that sums up the life of Adam and Eve: “After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters.”
During their lives, Adam and Eve had a number of male and female children. In fact, the Jewish historian Josephus wrote, “The number of Adam’s children, as says the old tradition, was thirty-three sons and twenty-three daughters.”
Scripture doesn’t tell us how many children were born to Adam and Eve, but considering their long life spans (Adam lived for 930 years—Genesis 5:5), it would seem logical to suggest there were many. Remember, they were commanded to “be fruitful, and multiply” (Genesis 1:28).
If we now work totally from Scripture, without any personal prejudices or other extra-biblical ideas, then back at the beginning, when there was only the first generation, brothers would have had to marry sisters or there wouldn’t have been any more generations!
Given that we are all descended from Adam and Eve, either Cain or one of his brothers must have married a sister. This would seem to violate the commands recorded in the book of Leviticus forbidding marriage between brothers and sisters. The Levitical laws, however, must be considered in their proper historical context.
Though the book of Genesis condemns sexual relations between children and their parents, it nowhere prohibits a man from marrying his sister or niece. Abraham, for example, married his half-sister without compunction. Not until the time of Moses were laws established forbidding a man from marrying a sister or a niece. The timing of this command makes perfect sense biologically, for genetic defects as a result of intra-family marriage would not begin to crop up until after the first few dozen generations.
