I disagree. I love things to be predictable and "too commercial" is nothing if not predictable. there is no place for adventure in my coffee cup. I want it exactly the same excellence every day. Starbucks gives me this comfort. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. I love that there is no smoking allowed.
Complaining it's too commercial and predictable is a predictable thing to do.
People complain about things and they don't even know why... it's just the "cool" thong to do.
Starbucks may be more expensive. There may be better coffee out there. And that's why you have free will to choose where you buy your coffee.
One thing I can say about Starbucks that I can't say about other coffee shops is that it has great benefits for it's employees... even part time workers. It also has tuition assistance for college.
Starbucks was environmentally conscious before it became trendy to be so. They work with humanitarian, wildlife and conservation organizations. Does that sound predictable? It's not. Research how they give back to their employees and the world at large before calling them predicatble... It's really not as predicatlbe as you might think.
Plus, they have a killer Pumpkin spice Latte..... try one and I bet you'll become a Starbucks regular!
Starbucks is catering to their customers - the Volvo-driving latte-sipping liberal intellectuals. They care about such things like alternative energy, clean and green planet earth, all the rest of the liberal BS. Me, I am in it just for the coffee. They can keep their fringe benefits.
I wish they'd show a picture of the actual place, instead of just a nice tight shot of the ambassador's chicken neck. :) I wonder if the decor has been modified for the local market at all, how spacious the place is, if there are any customers, etc.
Big fan of both the pumpkin spice latte and the egg nog latte this time of year.
