I think there is - we (Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Albania etc.) are young post-communist mafia states while Italy is a mature mafia state so that it is richer, has more decent economy and resembles more to a normal country.

Reading the bbc article about Croatia

I believe that "not to learn its lesson" is the way most Balkan countries function in this specific moment in history - in fact all the Slavic ones. It is all the same all over the place - corruption, organized crime, "inexplicably" rich politicians-turned-businessmen, murders, "reforms" and "crackdowns" that dont work and the belief that the country wont be able to get rid of all this without external pressure and help.

So there is nothing new and it wont change any time soon in the Slavic Balkans. We are just very lucky to be in the EU because of the huge miscalculation of the Eurocrats who only now start to understand that nobody knows how to turn a mafia state into a normal one in a reasonably short time.

"The report said the pirates are likely to ask a ransom ranging from USD 1,5 M - USD 2 M."

Oh yeah? Its the other way round - if the pirates pay 1 million USD we will eventually take our saylors back. If not, Somalia will go to hell in a matter of months, our saylors will show them how to do it more effectively.

I have only one thing to say - when you go to the mountain or elsewhere outside the city DONT THROW YOUR FECKING GARBAGE THERE - BRING IT BACK TO THE CITY.

One can get rich in this country with recyclyng business.

"Sofia has never been cleaner. I count the cleaners in Sofia every day", the Mayor also said."

Fecking liar. I suppose Kniajevo is also Sofia and last Sunday I personally gathered 3 big plastic bags with garbage above Kniajevo in the Vitosha forest - the plastic bags I found thrown on my way with many others as well as plastic bottles, yoghurt pots, beer cans, chips packages etc. And plastic is forever, it gets thousands of years to disintegrate.

And when I reached Kniajevo I gave up because the same sort of garbage covered most of the soil. Of course the city garbage containers there were overflowing.

We are worse than pigs because the pigs at least dont transport stuff in the mountain to throw it there.

It would be good if I knew this earlier instead of learning French and all the other stuff.

"a crew of 24, from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and the Philippines."

So far so good. But when the Bulgarian, the Russian and the Ukrainian saylors run out of alcohol, the pirates have to think about some sort of solution or face the saylors resistance when they are left with nothing else to drink except water.

I feel very happy for the South Koreans that Richie was not their strategic advisor 35 years ago because Samsung, Hyundai and LG would not exist and Korea would be much poorer than it is now. 35 years ago they were years behind in any technology and had literally nothing. It was the state strategy to encourage the development of new technologies and the training the young generation to use them and here we are today.

The sooner the plant declares bancruptcy and closes the better - every day of maintaining the plant costs a lot of money that are wasted for nothing, it would be better to close this thing and pay more or less decent compensations to the workers so that they have some money until they find another job.

It was high time that these guys do something sensible after creating a whole sea of nonsense. But who will work in this center?

The good local scientists who have something to do with nanotechnology and are still in BG are very few and most of them are quite old. The vast majority of young graduates in science are simply not good enough to develop such things.

If the government guys want to actually do something and not appoint friends who dont fit for the job and will only take the money, they have to look for really good people from abroad.
