Photo Story: Fashion Meets Rocks and Winds

Text by Petya Bondokova Photos by Nadya Kotseva One of Bulgaria's biggest fashion events this season found an original location - the city of rocks and winds. Sliven, center-east Bulgaria, welcomed elite fashion designers, models and managers this week for the Bulgarian Fashion Days 2005. But the small town was already used to the presence of VIPs. With football star Yordan Lechkov on the mayor post and young and extravagant Ophelia Kaneva as his deputy, the town proved to be a perfect destination for fashion novelties. Many reporters were surprised to find out that some time ago Sliven was the center of Bulgaria's textile industry. To prove the fact, organizers took visitors to the local Textile Museum, where a head-spinning variety of old-style weaving, spinning and knitting machines were displayed. This journey through time ended with a night of the latest trends in Bulgarian fashion. The private hotel of mayor Lechkov was turned into an arena for the show. Reputed designer houses like the Agresia Group, Irida, Miro and Kwiat stormed the stage. And, of course, a large portion of the attention was devoted to the models. Three Miss Bulgaria winners - Elena Anguelova, Elena Tihomirova and contemporary Rositsa Ivanova - charmed the crowd. Elena Anguelova, who won the title six years ago, proved that she is still in a top condition. Elena Tihomirova's perfect forms even sparkled rumours of probable breast enhancement. But the young belles were outshined by their older colleague Maggie Zhelyazkova, Missis Bulgaria 2003. The mom of a four-year-old proudly showed her immaculate figure and shined with femininity and self-confidence. Even their beauty, however, could not help some of the outfits look classy. Eccentric shapes, blinding-bright colours and too much ornamentation were shown to the audience. That contrasted to the dominantly elegant and high-quality fashion offered by the established Bulgarian companies. One of the best collections was that of Miro - a combination of stylishness and youthful spirit. Ivory, beige, purple, cognac and the different shades of brown emerged as the hot shades of this winter. And some good news for luxury lovers: the silver and gold effect make it big this season, and so does fur!
