Commenting article: Bulgarian Town Employs Potholes to Calm Traffic

Local authorities in the Bulgarian town of Gabrovo have used a peculiar tactic to reduce vehicle speed on a busy boulevard – by creating artificial potholes.

Nearly a dozen 3-by-3 feet holes have emerged near a pedestrian crossing on Gabrovo's Vasil Aprilov Boulevard, according to the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.

The holes are approximately 4 inches deep.

This technique is is not new. The town of Dolna Oryahovitsa (in the Gorna Oryahovitsa municipality) has been doing this for years on the road that leads to the villages of Pisarevo and Vurbitsa. What Dolna Oryahovitsa has done is particularly clever; they have disguised the artificial potholes as real ones caused by insufficient maintenance of the road surface. :-)

Another hair brained scheme by local leaders, why raid the public purse for such a scheme when you can actually save money just by not doing anything.........the potholes will appear naturally!!! One of these days someone will have the guts, and conclusive evidence, along with the money and determination to win, and they will take the authorities to court claiming car repair costs. Then we will see a scrabble to upgrade the roads.
