Commenting article: Bulgaria Ranks 13th in Europe in Mall Space

Bulgaria ranks 13th in size of its shopping mall space in Europe, a report has shown.

Data quoted by British newspaper The Guardian suggest that Bulgaria, which is often described as the EU's poorest country, is positioned at the upper part of the list.

More shopping centers are to open this year in Bulgaria, including one in the northern city of Pleven on April 12. Three huge malls are expected in the capital Sofia this autumn.

i`ve been to the shopping malls in Sofia, most are selling outdated goods that are probably the left overs from retailers in western Europe. And they are far too expensive, more expensive than western Europe, it doesn`t make sense.
Having said that there isnt anything else to do in Sofia except shopping malls.

It is all very well having the mall space but if nobody can afford the rents the spaces are left empty. In fact locally 2 malls out of 3 are mostly empty. Despite this I believe a 4th one is being built!
