Commenting article: Mass Rally in Northern Bulgaria Demands Belene NPP

Some 2 000 people have rallied in the northern Bulgarian city of Pleven in support for the Belene nuclear power plant project, which has been abandoned by Bulgaria's Borisov Cabinet.

The mass rally in Pleven, which is located close to the Danube town of Belene that was supposed to host the second Bulgarian NPP, was organized by an initiative committee called, "I Won't Give Up on Belene, Will You?"

The regional organization of the Confederation of Independent Bulgarian Syndicates (KNSB), a trade union, backed up the rally, which is the third such rally in Northern Bulgaria in the past week.

George, there is no prejudice in my post but please explain to me how people can reject shale gas (30% in the US, aproved in the UK and Poland) and in the same time people want nuclear in a highly seismic area (cross the river from Blenee is Romanian town of Zimnicea which was devasteded by the 1977 earthquake, 80% of the town destroyed!!!!!People in Bg dont remember Chernobyl???). And then you say I am scared which must be a joke with 4 American bases in my country and being 50% oil and 70% gas independent (and will become even more so in the years to come with the new deposits in the Black Sea due to be explored starting with 2015). And then what business do you expect me to do with the Russians, as the only Russian products I know and I buy are fish stuff (red caviar, smoked fish and fish liver), not really familiar with the amazing russian cars, electronics, fashion etc.

“which has been abandoned by Bulgaria's Borisov Cabinet.”

Borisov and all the previous politicians ABANDONED THE COUNTRY and the people all together and not only the NPP. The Balkans overall are suffering from ignorance, lack of flexibility and stubborn narrow mindness!
Look at the Romanian posting above for example, the guy is still scared from the Russians. How can you prosper and make business with people suffering from such a heavy dose of prejudice?
Same goes for the politicians……

Mass protests against shale gas and then mass gathering pro Belene a nuclear plant in an earthquake area (just one year after fokushima)??????????????????????? Is there the Russian bear's tail in all this or are Bulgarians reinventing the theater of the absurd?
