Commenting article: Striking (in) State Railways BDZ: Let's Amputate Bulgaria!

What would you think of a doctor amputating the legs of a crash victim with 95% chance of walking again given the right treatment? I bet you'd say that doctor is a crazy butcher.

This simple metaphor sums up the situation of the tremendously indebted, mismanaged, and robbed Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) company.

BDZ workers started on Thursday, November 24, 2011, probably Bulgaria's largest railway strike since the 1920s. Their grievances boiled down to the government plan to lay off more than 2 000 of them, and to stop from operation 150 trains, with further criticism of Transport Ministry's intention to sell BDZ Freight Services – the one remotely profitable unit of the state company at present.

Goodness, this article is almost as long as the strike was! how to loose the readers attention? write a long, detailed and dry report! Apart from that I agree with the sentiments but must take the writer up on one point. In any strike that affects the public in the way this one did (and will in the future) there are NO bad guys and good guys, they are ALL bad guys because they ALL are holding the public to ransom. I said it at the beginning, and will re-iterate now, they all needed to sit around the table and stay there working TOGETHER to save the railways and make them work. The strike was wasteful and disruptive as they now still have to talk around the table so all those strike days were for nothing! Co-operation not confrontation is the key.
