Commenting article: Bulgarian Mayor Arrested after Taking Bribe

Reyhan Habil , the mayor of the Vetovo Municipality near Ruse, was arrested by the local police minutes after he took a EUR1 000 bribe from a local businessman, the police informed Thursday.

Habil, aged 39, told a local businessman who was interested in buying a municipality owned property that his success in the auction would be guaranteed if he pays BGN2-3 000 (EUR1-1 500) in advance. The rest would be negotiated later, the Bulgarian news network reported.

One down, 12,347 to go.

Show me a Bulgarian Mayor that is NOT corrupt, and I'll show you a liar. Lets get this ball rolling and clean things up, as I have always said, and especially to our Local Mayor who wanted €4000 to grant planning permission. "Eventually, this will come back to bite you, maybe not next month, or next year, but eventually".

Turkish mayor of a Bulgarian town, not Bulgarian mayor... Novinite-e-e accuracy in reporting!

This is great news! It is often neglected that wherever there is corruption, there are two parties involved. Offering a bribe or not going to the police when asked for a bribe is also criminal.
