NHIF`S INCOMES FIVE TIMES HIGHER THAN EXPENDITURES

The National Health Insurance Fund /NHIF/ reported Incomes for year 2000 amounting to BGN 549.195.189 M and expenditures amounting to BGN 126.831.776 M. The fund`s expenditures make
up 49.33% of the BGN 257.119.157 M budgeted for the period. At the same time the health insurance contributions collected make up 102.62% of the BGN 535.173.397 M budgeted. NHIF`s receipts other than insurance contributions include interest
accumulated as a result of the check-ups made by the health bodies and the sanctions imposed. Of all budgeted expenses, only the capital expenses were fully utilised, NHIF`s report shows. The money was used for adapting the buildings provided for the fund`s operation, for building the communication system, for purchase of buildings, office equipment, hardware and software. The health insurance payments made between July 1 and December 31, 2000 amounted to BGN 97.5 M, compared to BGN 187 M stipulated by the law. BGN 63.4 M was spent on pre-hospital aid, the remainder was used for medicines for home
treatment.
