Question: What is the approximate amount of goods that were transported through Port Complex Ruse in 2007? What types of goods are primarily transported through Port Svishtov?

In 2007 Port Complex Ruse processed about 1 700 000 tons of goods. The imported goods include coal, metals, ores, machinery and equipment for agriculture and industry. The exported goods include grain, metals, lumber, light industry products.

Q: Have you observed any changes (i.e. decrease) in the volume and type goods transported through Port Ruse in the recent months - since July/August 2008?

A: The volume of trade is declining globally. At the same time, the local consumption is shrinking, which is inevitably going cause a reduction in the amount of goods transported through the complex in the recent months. We project that the volume of the goods in 2008 will decline to 1 400 000 tons.

Q: What are your projections about the way in which the global financial crisis will affect the volume of goods transported through the port in the short and medium run? How alarming are the prognoses?

A: We expect a decline in the economic growth, especially in the fields of construction and trade with metals. As our ports provide services to many clients, who deal with metal trading and the import of construction materials, the predictions are that the volume of trade with these type of materials and goods will decline.

We work with various types of enterprises. The volume of goods transported through our ports will decline also as a result of the difficulties that small companies are experiencing at present. In this context, the prognoses are definitely alarming.
