Tthe wholesale vegetable prices have gone 20% up for a year`s time, due to unfavourable weather conditions in spring and the rise in the electricity and fuel tariffs, said Alexander Iotsov, director of the Bulgarplod-Slatina wholesale market in Sofia. The large quantities of cheap vegetables, imported from Turkey, Macedonia and Greece are not able to reduce the process of the Bulgarian produce either, because of the high customs duties. Bulgarian processing entities produce 10 times less canned vegetables than 10 years ago. Producers have submitted 10 projects under the SAPARD program, five projects expect the final approval of the new regional administration.
