The toll of people killed by a brutal heat wave in southern India continues to climb as reports trickle in from rural districts, the government said. Temperatures that had soared to 45 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit) along the Bay of Bengal have fallen in the last few days in most of Andhra Pradesh state, but officials are still counting deaths among the elderly, ill and laborers who work outside. On Thursday afternoon, the death toll stood at 450. By late Thursday, it had risen to 622, said D.C. Roshaiah, the state relief commissioner.
