PARLIAMENT COMMENCED 1ST SESSION
Politics | July 5, 2001, Thursday // 00:00
Parliament`s eldest MP Svetoslav Luchnikov (79) opened the first session of the 39th National Assembly at 10 a.m. sharp. Immediately after Luchnikov`s short address, the MPs were sworn in. The MPs from Simeon II National Movement (SNM) and those from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms share the front seats in the plenary hall. Due to their great number the SNM MPs will also have to take up some of the back rows in the right-hand sector, which has been the traditional place of the UtdDF MPs. The ceremony was attended by President Peter Stoyanov, SNM leader Simeon II, members of the outgoing cabinet, former MPs and diplomats. In the meantime, it was announced that PM Kostov has submitted the resignation of his cabinet to the parliamentary secretarial office. The outgoing cabinet will continue to perform its duties until a new one is elected and will ensure continuity in the country`s governance, Kostov writes in the document.
