The Bush administration has defended its handling of intelligence reports prior to the 11 September terror attacks that indicated that al-Qaeda was planning to hijack aircraft. In a White House briefing, US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice said information given last August to President George W Bush was very generalised and did not relate to the possibility of attacks on buildings. Democratic leader Richard Gephardt said on Friday that inquiries into how much warning the U.S. government had of the Sept. 11 attacks would include members of Congress as well as the White House.
