PROGRESS EN ROUTE TO EU HIGHLY ASSESSED BY COUNCIL OF EUROPE

Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Walter Schwimmer, on a two-day visit to Bulgaria, and Bulgaria’s President Georgi Parvanov discussed Bulgaria’s progress towards EU membership. Schwimmer highly assessed what Bulgaria has achieved so far but pointed out that there is a lot more to be done in many fields. The occasion for the visit of Schwimmer is the 10th anniversary of Bulgaria's membership in the organization. The Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General pointed out that Bulgaria has become a stabilizing factor in the region for this period. Earlier during the day, Schwimmer also met with Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg.
