The Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov officially inaugurated Sunday Sofia's "Slivnitsa" boulevard with its fully renovated stretch between the "Opalchenska" boulevard and the "Stochna Gara" square.

The ceremony was held at the crossing of "Slivnitsa" boulevard and "Rakovski" street. Engineer Velizar Stoilov, Sofia's Deputy Mayor also participated in the ceremony.

The renovation was completed on time and in compliance with the European standards for a coast of BGN 3,3 M.

"We managed to open this morning the "Slivnitsa" boulevard in order to be fully prepared for the heavy traffic from western Bulgaria, entering and leaving Sofia and were able to coordinate everything between the municipality and the "Sofia Water" company regarding bridges and overpasses," Borisov stated at the opening ceremony.

Stoilov spoke about the new public transportation electronic ticketing system that is becoming effective September 1 in the capital. He explained that the system would not function in its full capacity during the first week to give residents time to replace their travel documents. The Deputy Mayor further said that by the week's end the municipality was expecting over 500 applications for electronic public transportation passes.

According to Stoilov, he was going to meet Monday with the Director of the Sofia Directorate "Police" to discuss the establishment of a "municipal police" task force to regulate and direct the heavy traffic, which is a huge problem for the capital.

During the ceremony Borisov also addressed the news that the residents of the Sofia district of Suhindol were beginning a protest rally against the landfill located in the district. The Mayor stated that the landfill was legal and its existence should not be used for political motifs and as a reason to create civil unrest.
