One of India's most popular trains derailed early Sunday on its way to the eastern city of Patna, killing at least eight people and injuring 70 others, according to a spokesman for Indian Railways. Thirteen of the 24 railcars of the Shramjeevi Express derailed around 3:40 a.m. (10:10 p.m. Saturday GMT) between Lucknow and Jaunpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh, railways spokesman Davinder Sandhu said. Some local news reports put the death toll at 10, and the injured at 100. Many of the passengers were sleeping at the time of the incident. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
