PM PRESENTS ZOGRAPHOU MONASTERY WITH ICON OF ST. GEORGE

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg was welcomed with huge respect and attention in the Bulgarian monastery of St. George Zographou in the all-male sanctuary - the secluded Christian Orthodox monastic community of Mount Athos. Saxe-Coburg was invited there by Hegumen Archimandrite Amvrosii for the celebrations of the St. George Zographou monastery's patron saint day. At Zographou, Saxe-Coburg attended an all-night vigil Friday evening and joined a litanic procession with the icon of St George on Saturday morning. After that he met with the monastic community and discussed the problems of the monastery. Saxe-Coburg donated a big icon of St. George to the Bulgarian monastery. The monastery was founded in the 9th century by three Slav brothers from Ohrid and later evolved in a center of Bulgarian culture. A total of 16 Bulgarian monks inhabit the monastery at the moment.
