”John Paul II a long journey toward Bulgaria -Between the fear and hope" is th etitle of the 52 minutes documentary film to be transmitted on Channel One on the Bulgarian National TV 10 May 2002. The film is made in March this year in Vatican City and Rome. Journalists Irina Nedeva and the camera of Denislav Kunchev penetrate the walls of the smallest state in Europe, in order to follow the preparations for the Pope John Paul II’ visit in Bulgaria (www.popeinbulgaria.com). It presents the points of view of the State secretary on the Holy See cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Pope's official spokesman Navaro Vals, and three cardinals who are coming together with the Pope in Bulgaria- cardinal Valter Kasper, cardinal Daud, cardinal Tuci.

The film presents the private chapel of the pope John-Paul II that has the name "Redemptoris mater". This is the first time that a camera has been allowed to shoot the Pope’s private place for prayers, a door away from his apartment. The chapel is made in 1998 by artists and monks from Eastern and Central Europe gathered around p.Marko Rupnik and the Center Ezio Aletti in the style of mosaic art and symbolizes the crossing points between the Eastern and Western Christian art. The film takes the viewers to the monastery, where the documentation on the beatification of three Bulgarian Catholic priests slain by communists in 1952, was prepared. The pontiff would officially announce the beatifications — the last step before raising someone to sainthood — during his visit to Bulgaria May 23- 26.
