The continuity of Bulgarian foreign policy was in the spotlight of a conversation between President Peter Stoyanov and NATO General Secretary George Robertson during the European Economic Summit in Salzburg. `I said Simeon Saxe-Coburg would conduct the country`s foreign policy along the same lines`, Stoyanov told journalists after the meeting. According to him the fact that Sofia will host a summit of the NATO candidate countries in October is an optimistic sign for Bulgaria. Talking to Stoyanov earlier on Monday, Simeon Saxe-Coburg confirmed NATO would be one of the Movement`s main priorities. President Stoyanov and Robertson also talked about the situation in Macedonia. Peter Stoyanov noted how important it is for Bulgaria that consultations there start as soon as possible. He believes that Bulgaria is pursuing a sufficiently active policy towards Macedonia. Peter Stoyanov said after the meeting that the Bulgarian position should be very balanced and not leave the impression that `Bulgaria is exceeding its powers`.
