Martin Owen, UK, played as soloist with the Collegium Bankya chamber orchestra at Bulgaria Hall May 2. The orchestra was conducted by Emil Yanev. The concert is part of the European Music Festival organised by Classic FM and presented with the cooperation of British Council Bulgaria. In the programme were included Horn concerto by Malcolm Arnold and Horn Concerto N4 by Mozart. Martin Owen, 29, is now solo horn in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London; a position which takes him all round the world from the America's to China and Japan.
He combines this busy orchestral life with many solo, chamberand teaching commitments. He recently made his Wigmore Hall debut with Britten's Serenade, which lead to a U.K. tour with Philip Langridge (tenor),and a Scottish tour playing Malcolm Arnold's 2nd horn concerto. He has also taught at festivals in Colorado, USA,Japan, Germany, Italy and France. But much of Martin's work now is commercial. Indeed, he can be heard on film sound tracks like James Bond (Tomorrow never Dies), Star Wars, The Mummy films, Gladiator, Lord of theRings, and pop music albums of Bjork, Robbie Williams, Spiritualized, to name but a few.
