Pakistan's Supreme Court has given the go-head for a controversial referendum to extend President Pervez Musharraf's rule. The court has rejected eight petitions brought by opposition parties and lawyers' groups arguing that the referendum - scheduled for next Tuesday - is unconstitutional. Pakistan's main opposition parties and religious groups all oppose the vote.But President Musharraf says he is seeking another five years in power in order to continue his programme of political and economic reforms.
