A pedigree Golden Retriever from the school for guiding dogs for the blind received the name Darik today.

This was announced at an official ceremony held near the lily lake in the "Borisova Gradina" park. The mayor of Sofia Boyko Borisov and the Executive Director of M-tel Joseph Vinazer gave names to 20 dogs, designated to be trained as guide dogs for the blind.

Th four-legged Darik is 26 months old and has been at the training school for two weeks.

Until now, for about a year, Darik has lived at the foster home of a woman named Bilyana.

"It is very hard for me to part with him', Bilyana has stated, "He is a wonderful dog, smart, nice, and a quick learner. I knew in advance that one day I would have to give him up, it is hard, but I visit him often. Knowing that he will soon be helping someone in great need of him is a consolation", she shared.

According to Bilyana, the dog received the name Darik at the school.

The Sofia training school for guide dogs has been established by Albena Aleksieva - the woman journalist hosting the "Attention Animals" show, airing on Darik Radio each Sunday morning.

In addition to Golden Retrievers, other dog breeds receiving medals and plaques included Labradors and German Sheppards.
