NPP KOZLODUI TO RECEIVE NUCLEAR FUEL FROM RUSSIA

Russian company Tvel will supply new nuclear fuel for the small reactors of Nuclear Power Plant Kozlodui, 24 Hours daily announced. The news was announced after the term for submitting offers had expired. French Kugema and Westinghouse did not appear because they do not possess the technology needed for producing fuel packs for Russian reactors. The contract with Tvel is on leasing basis. The company is obliged to take back to Russia the processed fuel without leaving in Bulgaria the radioactive waste. So far, the used fuel was processed in Russia, but the waste was kept in NPP Kozlodui. The Civil Responsibility insurance of the NPP will facilitate the nuclear transfer through Romania and Ukraine, the Director of NPP Y. Yordanov said. NPP Kozlodui will pay $500.000 annually for the insurance.
