The Zimbabwe opposition's call for a nationwide strike over delayed release of presidential election results got muted response on Tuesday, with Zimbabwean shops and businesses remaining open.

People say they cannot afford to lose a day's pay and others claim they have not heard of the strike, BBC reported.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the main opposition party, called for the national strike saying their candidate Morgan Tsvangirai defeated President Robert Mugabe and that the count is currently being rigged.

Zimbabwe's elections were held on March 29 and according to opposition quoting unofficial results, Tsangvirai gained about 67% of the vote.

No official results have been released since then.
