The bloc of the Italian tycoon Silvio Berlusconi has a small lead in Italy's early parliamentary elections according to latest exit polls.

The "Freedom Coalition", the center-right bloc of the Italian billionaire, is predicted to have a two-percent lead in the Senate and a three-percent lead in the lower house of the Italian Parliament.

If the exit polls results are correct, Berlusconi will become Italian Prime Minister for the third time.

Berlusconi's main rival is the center-left leader Walter Veltroni, a former communist and a former mayor of the city of Rome, who took over from Romano Prodi after his left-wing government collapsed after one year in office.
