The Solvay Sodi soda ash maker reported a net profit of $ 3.7 M for last year. The profit is a result of the increased sales in the second half of last year in contrast to the tough market the first half-year and the whole of 1999. On Friday the General Meeting of Solvay Sody decided that the whole profit will go into the investment programme of the company. BGN 16 M were spent last year for upgrading the soda plant and improving the quality of the final product, the safety at work and the environmental parameters. Another BGN 16.1 M went for acquisitions: of the Devnya thermal power plant, of Geosol of Provadiya and of the lime plant in the village of Chernevo (the last bought through a joint venture with the Devnya cement maker).
