Sofia municipal council decided Thursday to expand the so-called "blue zone" in downtown the capital city with more than 1,200 parking lots.
A total of 60 lots in 13 central streets are intended for disabled people, the councilors announced.
"There will be mounted stakes along the sidewalks so that the safety of the pedestrians is guaranteed," Deputy Mayor Velizar Stoilov said.
"We are now working on placing more cameras on principal thoroughfares. It will help identifying the drivers, who violate the rules," he added.
The municipality is to put to the vote a proposal for introducing chip-cards for the citizens, who live in the ideal center of Sofia so that they could use parking lots for free.
This measure comes as a result of the tension, triggered before by the blue zone expansion, as people, living within its boundaries, are obliged to put a sticker, containing personal data, on the windshield of their car.
