1.094 million life-insurance contracts were effective in 2000, show the data of the Insurance and Gambling Supervision Agency (IGSA). Due to the last NSI (National Institute of Statistics) census, the population in Bulgaria amounts to 7.977 million people. Last year`s trends show that the number of the `Life` insurances is reduced, but the insurance sum on each of them is growing considerable. The Supervision Agency does not dispose of precise data on the number of the gamblers. But in the casinos, where the gamblers are mainly foreigners, the visits are upping. For the first five months of this year the budget revenues out of taxes under the Gambling Act amounted to BGN 1.602 M and another BGN 24.2 thousand came out of fines. For the same period of 2000, the collected taxes accounted for BGN 1.489 M.
