A ring smuggling foreigners through Bulgaria was broken in a joint operation of the local police and the Regional Service for Organized Crime Control. Twelve illegal aliens were caught in the operation before sneaking into Yugoslavia. Police caught in the house of Violin N. in the village of Kapitanovtsi 12 Afghan men. They had spent the night in the house and were waiting to be taken across the border out of Bulgaria. Police also arrested the people who ran the ring-four men whose names and nationality is not disclosed. The 12 Afghan men are held at the local remand centre. All of them are without IDs and only have invitations for interviews at the Refugees Agency in Sofia, which police expects to be false. It has been the second attempt at illegal crossing of the border at Vidin in the last two days. On June 26 border police arrested another 7 Afghan men and one Armenian trying to cross over.
