US President George Bush said he hopes Serbia will help Kosovo secede, as supervised independence is the best solution for the region.
Kosovo represents the last chapter in the break-up of the former Yugoslavia and an end to a very difficult period, Bush said in a brief interview with Croatian national television in Washington, cited by B92.
"I hope the Serbian government will realize that the Serbs in Kosovo are treated with respect as a minority, and that it will in time help Kosovo separate, instead of trying to prevent its secession," Bush added.
Bush was speaking just days ahead of the NATO Summit in Bucharest, after which he is to pay an official visit to Croatia.
