PM MEETS PRESIDENT BUSH TODAY

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister who pays an official visit to the United States will meet with US President Bush today, the meeting is expected to begin at 10.40 pm Bulgarian time. Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice will attend the meeting. In the morning Saxe-Coburg meets with journalists from the Associated Press, Washington Post, Washington Times and the TV channels NBC and CBS. He will also meet during the day with senators from the Foreign Policy Committee. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg pays a five-day visit to the United States, which started on April 20. This is the first visit to the United States by a Bulgarian head of government at the invitation of a US President. Talks on Bulgaria’s NATO membership top the agenda of the visit of the Bulgarian prime minister. Bulgaria hopes to receive invitation for NATO membership at the summit in Prague this autumn. Fight against terrorism and organized crime, the situation in the Middle East and bilateral cooperation within the UN Security Council are also front and center in the talks with high-ranking US officials.
