Over 50 TV stations, among which CNN and Euronews, will cover the visit of Pope John Paul II in Bulgaria (www.popeinbulgaria.com), Maxim Minchev from the welcoming committee told Dnevnik Daily. Some 400 journalists will cover the event. All the events and all additional information might be obtained at www.popeinbulgaria.com. The itinerary for the Pope’s stay in Sofia, Plovdiv and the Rila Monastery will be posted online during the coming days. Pope John Paul II will visit Bulgaria from May 23 to May 26. The preliminary program of the papal visit, announced in late March, includes the pope attending the mass on the occasion of Bulgaria’s holiday May 24th in the “Alexander Nevski” cathedral. There are no signals for threats for the life of Pope John Paul II during his visit to Bulgaria, General Vassil Vassilev, director of the police told journalists. The police has contacted all police services in Europe to enquire whether they had any information for grouping that might be threaten the life of the pope. The visit of Pope John Paul II coincides with NATO’s General Assembly, which Sofia hosts. The schedule of the two events coincides over a three-day period from May 24 till May 26. All policemen in the country will be engaged for the events, some 4,000 policemen will observe for the safety of the high-ranking officials in Sofia.
