Nadezhda Mihaylova, leader of Bulgaria’s rightist opposition Union of Democratic Forces insisted President Parvanov to veto the Classified Information Act at a meeting on Monday. The UDF National Council on Friday decided to ask the President for the veto. MPs of the rightist opposition United Democratic Union called the Parliament’s decision to revoke the State Security Records Act a shame and called on the other MPs to think about the risk of the institutions going under control of the former secret services. The State Security Records Act was revoked by the parliamentary majority April 18. A total of 107 MPs voted for revoking the Act, 53 voted against and 14 abstained after a two-hour debate. Following the revoking of the Act, the commissions on records disclosure stopped working. At the meeting with Mihaylova, Parvanov said he will acquaint himself with the Classified Information Act without declaring any particular decision on the issue.
