The chief suspect in the kidnap and murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl has said he does not recognise the Pakistani court that is trying him. British-born militant, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, told the court in the southern city of Karachi that he wanted to be tried by an Islamic court under Sharia law. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. His three co-defendants all pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder, kidnapping and terrorism. The trial, held behind closed doors in a makeshift courtroom at Karachi Central Jail, got under way on Monday morning amid massive security. Mr Pearl was abducted in January while working on a story about Pakistani militants. A video tape was later delivered to US diplomats showing him being killed.
